When a stroke occurs, every second counts. At John Muir Health, we are committed to providing patients with rapid and effective stroke care to preserve our patient’s quality of life.
At John Muir Walnut Creek and Concord campuses you can expect to receive coordinated stroke care from our highly trained specialist(s), who use the latest imaging technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) software, and breakthrough, minimally invasive treatments to improve patient outcomes and reduce long-term disabilities.
John Muir Medical Centers in Walnut Creek and Concord were both designated as the first stroke-certified medical centers within Contra Costa, Solano, and Alameda counties in May 2005. These certifications were granted on the basis of our responsiveness to stroke assessment and treatment in the Emergency Departments, along with consistent adherence to national guidelines for providing quality inpatient care.
John Muir Health Walnut Creek Medical Center - Comprehensive Stroke Center
This certification means that Walnut Creek Medical Center is ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year to deliver advanced stroke care. It’s the highest level of stroke certification, earned by demonstrating the significant resources, staff and training that are necessary for the treatment of the most complex stroke cases, including interventional procedures for acute strokes and hemorrhages.
To be eligible, hospitals must demonstrate compliance with stroke-related standards as a Primary Stroke Center and meet additional requirements, including advanced imaging capabilities, 24/7 availability of specialized treatments, and qualified staff with the special education and competencies to care for complex stroke patients.
John Muir Health Concord Medical Center – Primary Stroke Center
This certification means that Concord Medical Center offers advanced stroke treatment options, maintaining a specialized healthcare team and offering community education to decrease the incidence of stroke. These requirements promote and achieve quality patient care and good patient outcomes.
John Muir Health continues to be recognized for the high level of service we provide stroke patients, receiving multiple gold level achievement awards from the American Heart and American Stroke Associations as part of their “Get with the Guidelines” program.
