A breakthrough technology for detecting breast cancer in its earliest stages, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT), also known as “3D mammography,” is available to all patients and is especially ideal for patients with dense breast tissue.
Our 3D mammography takes multiple pictures of each breast from several angles, providing clearer images and fewer false positives. This allows our dedicated UCSF breast radiologist to see through overlapping tissue to find hidden cancers. More accurate, expert reads are linked to better clinical outcomes with higher cancer detection rates. Early detection of small breast cancers, when they are most curable, may lead to milder treatments.
For annual screening mammograms, new and existing patients can book a mammogram appointment online.

DEXA
DXA or DEXA (dual-energy X-ray asorpitometry) scans are bone density tests designed to measure the strength, density and size of your bones to determine any bone loss. DEXA scans are similar to X-rays: painless and noninvasive. They compare your bone density with standards for what is expected in someone of your age, gender, and size.
Bone density testing can help to:
We utilize Hologic’s Horizon DXA system. This is latest generation of bone density scanners and comes equipped with several new features, including:
X-ray
Our low dose, digital X-ray provides quick, clear imagery for most bone and chest views. Outfitted in both our Imaging suite and our Urgent Care for added convenience, no appointments are needed and walk-ins (with orders) are accepted.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound, also referred to as sonography, is an imaging method that uses sound waves to create and produce images of prescribed areas within the body. The images can provide valuable information for diagnosing and directing treatment for many diseases and conditions.
The industry-leading 3T MRI has arrived at the Berkeley Outpatient Center
When it comes to patient care, your expectation is excellence. That’s why we’ve invested in the new MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI. Trusted by physicians and preferred by patients, our MRI offers:
Speed & Efficiency
3T MRI enables faster, more accurate scans to minimize motion artifacts and sedation, and decrease time-to-results.
Adaptability & Consistency
BioMatrix Technology adapts to patient differences, reducing exam variations and rescans, while enhancing results.
Precision
Increased sensitivity enables higher resolution images, for clearer clinical answers.
Wide-Bore
Our MRI is wider than most MRIs, which is crucial for patients who are claustrophobic. Additionally, wide-bore MRIs have more headroom, which helps for taller patients, and are larger to accommodate patients up to 550lbs.
The Somatom Definition Edge CT is able to perform high-volume, intricate scans quickly in both routine and emergent cases. Outfitted with intelligent imaging programs to streamline data output, our CT additionally offers
Scanning efficiency delivers results when you need them.
Intricate scans are performed quickly and intuitively, empowering better patient care and more confident diagnoses.
Imaging advances adapt to diverse patient types.
The large capacity scanning system, with dose-sensitive protocols, accommodates patients of all sizes, including bariatric and pediatric cases.
Technology developments promote complex care cases.
Sophisticated software balances low-dose radiation with excellent imaging quality to optimize outcomes for cancer and cardiology patients.
