After you are diagnosed with lung cancer, you are assigned a Nurse Navigator, who becomes your point person during your treatment and recovery periods. She is available to answer any questions you might have, steer you towards the right resources, and provide support for you and your family during this challenging time in your life.
Your managing physician has access to a multi-disciplinary cancer case conference (tumor board) where a team of medical experts review complex cases and make treatment recommendations. The expert panel consists of a thoracic surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, radiologist, and pathologist. Discuss with your physician whether this is an option for you.
The advanced lung cancer treatments available at John Muir Health include the full complement of innovative surgical techniques, the most sophisticated radiation oncology options, the newest chemotherapy agents, and access to clinical trials and other advanced treatment options. Oftentimes we will use these treatments in combination to aggressively treat the lung cancer.
Ultimately how you wish to be treated is your decision. Our goal is to make sure you understand what is available to you and what to expect at every point in the treatment, then to have an open discussion about what course would work best for you.
John Muir Health has been recognized as a “Center of Excellence” by the Lung Cancer Alliance for providing high quality responsible screening.
