Building on the foundation of the team-based care rotation during the first year, the second and third year “family medicine” rotations are 3 different 6-week rotations that focus on interdisciplinary and multi-specialty adult medical care with an outpatient focus. Residents have their own family medicine clinic scheduled most days of the week to continue to provide volume, experience and patient access in their own primary care clinic setting.
Unique clinical primary care experiences on these rotations include focused clinic appointments for suboxone intake and management during their regular family medicine clinic, as well as precepting in our family medicine clinic alongside faculty members to bolster learning, leadership and confidence.
The specialty educational experiences provided are chosen to be areas that we commonly deal with in primary care, such as cardiology, dermatology, wound care, rheumatology, allergy etc. These rotations are designed to provide more time for flexibility to allow residents to have some time for panel management. They additionally provide flexibility for coverage for colleagues in both inpatient and outpatient settings, so there are some administrative days that may be used to cover clinics as well as some OB shifts to cover our continuity patients.
