We believe in the importance of family-centered care and our Children’s Services program is designed with family at the heart of our care delivery model. Our team works in partnership with the family. The nurses do all of their reporting at bedside to ensure that the family understands their child’s treatment plan and what will be happening that day. We strive to engage the families and develop a bond of trust among our nurses, the patient and their family.
You can be part of our extraordinary Children’s Health Team by joining us today and making a gift to sustain and enhance our Children’s Health programs and services. You can make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families here in our community.
Each year, more than 3,300 babies are born at John Muir Health and approximately twenty percent of those babies are born prematurely, underweight, or with an illness and need to spend time in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) - some for many months. Our unit is a world-class Level III NICU with special capabilities to care for extremely premature and critically ill newborns and is the only licensed Community Level III intensive care nursery in Contra Costa County. Your gift in support of John Muir Health’s NICU gives the gift of hope to our tiniest and most fragile patients and their families.
John Muir Health now has the first and only pediatric intensive care unit in Contra Costa County. We offer the highest level of around-the-clock, critical care for children ages 0 to 18 with a wide variety of life-threatening issues—such as severe illnesses, congenital heart conditions, certain types of cancer, and traumatic injuries from an accident.
John Muir Health’s partnership with Stanford Children’s Health brings together two world-class health systems and all of the specialists each hospital offers to provide expert medical care close to home for children in our community. Providing medical care for sick children often includes caring for anxious and fatigued family members. Our enhanced Children’s Specialty Services program includes resources such as a Child Life Specialist who can help make a hospital stay a less scary experience for the pediatric patient, and also provide support for siblings and parents as well.
